Young people in Cannock have got what it takes

Have you got what it takes? at Cardinal Griffin

Year 8 pupils at Cardinal Griffin Catholic High School in Cannock took part in the national London 2012 Enterprise programme ‘Have you got what it takes’ on Thursday 22 July.

As a reward for the school joining the Get Set network, the Staffordshire Partnership ran the day-long activity which could see the school win a trip to the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland, a tour of the Olympic Park or a visit from top athletes after entering the national competition.

The six teams from the school each took on the role of a company trying to convince the organisers of the London 2012 Games that they have the flair, business acumen, commitment to the Olympic and Paralympic Values - and the perfect venue - to host a Pre-Games training camp.

Having convinced London 2012 that their company can fulfil all the criteria to become an ‘approved host’ each company then delivered a presentation to persuade a national sports team to use their brilliant training camp in the run up to the games.

The winning team was ‘Aspire 2 Inspire’ (pictured), who have now submitted their blog and entry to the national competition.

School Sport Co-ordinator at Cardinal Griffin, Rose Brown, said; “By joining the Get Set network we have already proved we are committed to living the Olympic and Paralympic Values, but it has also provided opportunities for our students to really get involved and inspired by London 2012.”

Staffordshire Co-ordinator for the 2012 Games, Chris Kirkland, who sat on the judging panel said; “I was really impressed with the level of knowledge and understanding amongst the teams at Cardinal Griffin. When we hosted the Pakistan and England hockey teams last year at Cannock Hockey Club we gained a real understanding of the needs of Olympic teams and perhaps these young people could teach us a thing or two.”
