Back in January, sampad set out for India to begin the project, with a team of UK dance and music artists – Soweto Kinch, Harmage Singh Kalirai and Anusha Subramanyam – to work alongside artists based in India – Priyam Mukherjee; Ratul Shankar and Sanjukta Ray.
The second phase of the project is part of our Dancing for the Games programme funded by Legacy Trust UK, Arts Council England West Midlands and Advantage West Midlands, and will culminate in a dance theatre production that explores the emergence of contemporary British Asian dance and music formed in the UK and explores its traditional roots in India.
The project is being led by a team of professional artists, dancers and choreographers and following a premiere and tour of India in October, will involve a wider participatory programme with members of the public as part of its UK tour.
