The competition invites residents to design a picture to promote cycling in Stoke-on Trent. The winner of each of the three categories of the competition will then win a new bike and have their pictures displayed in the VIP area at the finish of the Tour of Britain in the City Centre. The competition will be judged by a panel made up of the Lord Mayor, Councillor Hazel Lyth and members of the CycleStoke team.
A selection of entries submitted will be displayed as part of a cycling exhibition during the Tour of Britain. The exhibition will be in Ceramica, Burslem, next to starting gantry of this year’s Tour of Britain Stage 2 on September 12, 2010.
Councillor Hazel Lyth, cabinet member for sport, leisure and culture, said: “The Tour of Britain arriving in Stoke-on-Trent two years ago helped increase the city’s interest in cycling and the enormous amount of benefits that it can bring people.
“We are now looking to residents to get creative with their experiences and design a picture to show just why cycling is the way forward for our city. This city has produced many pieces of innovative art works over the years and we are looking to tap into that creative gene to make a special design to commemorate cycling within Stoke-on-Trent.”
All entries must be no larger than A3, should include the CycleStoke logo, and make reference to cycling being fun, healthy or affordable. Combinations of these themes can be used.
The CycleStoke logo and more information about entries, runner up prizes and competition rules are available at www.cyclestoke.co.uk, can be requested by emailing cyclestoke@stoke.gov.uk or by telephoning 01782 238692. Entries can be submitted for under 11s, 11 to 16 years and an open category.
