As part of Dancing for the Games, Dance Sansaar is delivering hundreds of free ‘Discovery’ workshops across the West Midlands where you can learn Lawk Naach dance movements.
Lawk Naach is Punjabi folk dance; translated it means “people dancing” or “dance of the people”. Two of the most popular dance forms of Lawk Naach are Bhangra and Giddha.
The Dance Sansaar project will teach thousands of people the moves of Lawk Naach in the run up to the Games. The project’s finale will give 2012 people the chance to perform Lawk Naach as one large team in Birmingham next year.
Dance Sansaar has also put a series of dance tutorial videos online to accompany the workshops and to give those who can’t make the workshops the chance to still take part.
If you would like to be a part of the Lawk Naach project and to watch the videos online, please visit the Dance Sansaar website to find out more.
Dance Sansaar's Lawk Naach project is part of Dancing for the Games, which is inspired by London 2012 and part of the Cultural Olympiad in the West Midlands. It has been funded by Legacy Trust UK, Arts Council England and Advantage West Midlands.
