Over 200 advocates have now signed up to be part of Community Games and are spreading the word about the programme and London 2012 in their own communities.

Advocates are organisations or individuals who work with community groups, such as school sport teams, arts groups, library services and Scouting associations. They promote Community Games to these groups, helping to find new Community Games organisers and to make them aware of the training and support on offer through taking part.

Over 200 advocates have so far played a key role in inspiring, targeting and promoting Community Games to local leaders and organisations in their areas. They have made a valuable contribution towards the achievements of the programme so far, which has seen 226 Community Games taking place, involving 165,000 people.

Advocates are also seeing the benefits of being involved in Community Games and of being able to promote the achievements of their local communities to a wider audience. As Jem Teal, Community Development Manager for Wychavon District Council, said:
“Community Games has cemented our relationships with many local organisations, including sports clubs. It has raised the profile of sports development within the authority and locally in the district.”
